Man vs. Machine? and, Foreclosure Is Also For The Birds

Posted on by Peter

Fall colors.

We may have the makings of a John Henry-esque, man-versus-machine contest brewing at one of our properties.

Old drainage pipes turned into fallow planters.

Dirty Dave and I were inspecting a property in the burbs, and found this series of modified concrete drainage pipes that have been turned into planters. Each weighs several hundred pounds, and moving them by hand is not an option. So what to do?

planters of cement

These guys are in the front yard.

How about a contest? We thought it might be interesting to see which method ends up being more efficient: removing the planters with a Bobcat, or smashing them with a sledgehammer and removing them by hand? We’d like to do a little competition, maybe see which method takes longer to dispose of four planters. Any bets on which’ll be the better method?

Foreclosed Birdhouse

The birds fell behind on their mortgage payments.

At the same property, this weathered birdhouse has also fallen into foreclosure. We will be providing no property-preservation services to this house. The occupants were not around for comment. Perhaps they were busy on line, tweeting about their plight?

  1. It depends. If Dirty Dave is on the hammer and you are on the bobcat my money is on the hammer. New name for Dirty Dave-Charles Martel. If you are not a student of European history you might have to look this up.
